Cell Phone Lockers

All teachers agree… Cell phones are a distraction!

Quick Facts

  • 86% of 12-17 year olds say their schools ban cell phone use
  • 65% of teens at “no phone” schools bring their cell phone to school every day
  • 64% of teens with cell phones admit to texting in class

The Problem

Recently, one Chicago Public School Principal thought that if he could eliminate the phones from the classrooms he could eliminate distractions, as well as violence.  Students were using(and misusing) their phones for all kinds of bad things.

The solution…secure cell phone storage lockers.

When students enter school they immediately put their cell phones into the cell phone lockers before passing through the metal detectors and to their classrooms. The results have been dramatic.  He says that not only have they reduced distractions throughout the day, the rate of violence has decreased, as well as considerably reducing the early dismissal rate.

  • Cell phone lockers are located in common area close to school entry for enhanced security
  • Cell phones are available to students before and after school, and in case of emergencies
